Higher education is currently experiencing a profound transformation, driven by rapid advances in digital technologies, increasing globalization, and a growing demand for flexible, lifelong learning pathways. At the forefront of this development are Artificial Intelligence (AI) and multimodal communication technologies, which are reshaping pedagogical approaches, assessment practices, and institutional strategies. At the same time, these are only two among several emerging innovations — including extended reality (XR), learning analytics, blockchain, and microlearning platforms — that are fundamentally redefining how knowledge and skills are created, accessed, and applied within educational environments.

This volume offers a comprehensive examination of current trends in instructional technology and digital innovation in higher education. As the third call for papers in this series—following the successful publication of the yearbooks in 2024 and 2025—it continues to build on a growing body of international scholarship and collaboration. The volume brings together leading international scholars and practitioners to address central developments, challenges, and future directions in the field to discuss key topics, including:

Submission Requirements

The chapter should be original, unpublished and not simultaneously submitted to other workshops, conferences, or journals.

Furthermore, make sure

• you have done a similarity check using iThenticate. Only papers with a similarity index of less than 20% and not more than 100 words per source are accepted by Springer. Correct citations are excluded.
• you follow Springer's AI Policies here: https://www.springernature.com/gp/policies/book-publishing-policies
• your paper matches the provided Springer template
• you use the correct citation style: use Springer basic style, citation style numbered (https://citationsy.com/styles/springer-basic-brackets or https://www.springer.com/gp/authors-editors/book-authors-editors/your-publication-journey/manuscript-preparation#toc-49271)
• your paper does not exceed the maximum page numbers (12–16 pages, including tables, figures, bibliography and appendix)
• tables in your paper are editable. Do not insert them in image format.
• equations in your paper are editable. Do not insert them in image or simple text format. Use the MS Formula Editor or LaTeX!
• you have done a final language check. Papers with insufficient English language level cannot be included into the book.
• you have familiarized yourself with the Springer Guide to Copyright and Permissions. 3rd-party content is anything in your manuscript that's not your own original work. When uploading your final chapter, you will declare that your whole manuscript is fully original or that you have obtained the permissions to use the 3rd party material.

Similarity and AI checks are done after the submission to Springer. This means that your work might be accepted after the review, but excluded later from the Springer publication.

Submission and Upload

Publication

APC

The APC is EUR 800 per accepted chapter with 12-16 pages. They have to be paid after the camera-ready upload and is also done using the submission system.

Indexing

The book will be published in in the Springer Series 'Learning and Analytics in Intelligent Systems' (https://www.springer.com/series/16172), which is listed in EI Compendex, Scopus, and SpringerLink.

Springer

From the final upload until the publication please watch out for emails from Springer or their sub-contractor Straive. They will contact you with the proofs. Be reactive as they will wait for the replies of all authors – one author who doesn't answer causes the delay of the publication of the entire book.
